Artist John (Chuanwen) Wang:
Born in Tianjin China 1947. John began doing portrait sketches when he was a teenager. Later he went to the Teacher's School to become an Art teacher. In 1988, on the Great Wall of China, he met a group of American Art teachers while painting portraits for tourists. In 1991, Nancy Burch, and the other art teachers sponsored him to visit the States. Since 1992, John has been a resident of Ft. Lauderdale. He received permanent residency status because of his excellent merit and abilities in Chinese Brush Painting. In 2002, John became an U.S. citizen.
As an artist, John does portraits and paints landscape. Oil, acrylic, pastel, watercolor, pen and ink, charcoal are the mediums he uses. South Florida is a paradise. He likes the sunshine and the city night life. Many of his artworks are about life in this paradise.
He shows his works at Las Olas, Riverwalk and local art exhibitions. He has received several awards and has many patrons home
and abroad. In 2002, he was commissioned to work on a project of Florida Art in State Buildings Program. Recent years, two of his paintings were published on the covers of Go Riverwalk and Cultural Quarterly.
